The walls in the Golden house shook non-stop. Bass blasting, speakers bursting, and busting all sleepers in the head. Through piano, drum and guitar lessons, young Keith Golden just wanted to rock the bass.
He began studying piano at age 7 and added drums and guitar at 8. Then, bass fever hit from outer space.
KG: " When I was 10, I saw Close Encounters. After that, I always wanted to be the alien musician on the mothership who plays those 5 bass tones. When the windows blow out of the tower... that's intense."
His first bass gig wasn't exactly the Mothership (unless you can find the funk in Bye-Bye Birdie), but it fueled the fire in Keith to get deeper and deeper into all kinds of music.
Following his passion, KG wrote and performed all the music and vocals for his first release. Then he formed and fronted a band called Golden Sound Axis. They turned the Baltimore underground funk scene upside down with some of the most outrageous shows in the city.
After 2 wild years, Keith traded his mic for a Fender P Bass Guitar. The low end was calling again.
"I saw a Tommy Boy record with a sticker that said 'Extreme Low End may damage speakers'. I wanted to go even deeper than that. So I played more and more bass, looking for the fattest sounds and hardest grooves".
Keith moved to New York to find the best artists to play bass with. He quickly found a home in the live hip hop and dance scenes of the city. He recorded tracks for Moonshine and Gee Street records. As music director for Revival at Metropolis, Keith played with the some of the best New York MCs including Doug E. Fresh.
KG's first performance with a major label artist was on keyboards in R&B singer Deborah Cox's first video for the Arista single "Sentimental". Then he returned to bass and worked with producer Steve Addabbo (Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin) to complete an album for singer/songwriter Sam Bisbee.
Next, he joined forces with Sony artist Jimmy Ray who had an international hit single called "Are You Jimmy Ray". Following his Tonight Show debut and MTV Spring Break in Jamaica, Keith returned to New York to record with producer Tony Moran (Michael Jackson, Gloria Estefan). He subsequently played a promotional run with the king of Latin pop, Enrique Iglesias.
In 1999, Keith received an advance No Angel CD by Dido on Arista. He joined her band and embarked on a 3 year tour of the globe that led to sales of over 12 million units worldwide. In the midst of the Dido tour, Keith performed "Slim Shady" and "Stan" with Eminem on Saturday Night Live and England's Top of the Pops.
Keith has built a reputation of high standards and dedication to music. His sound is massive and his groove is immense. He's played live on the biggest music shows and stages around the globe.
KG is currently touring the world with Dido in promotion of her smash Arista/BMG album Life For Rent.
